The Barony of Nordenrand

BARONY OF NORDENRAND
Y'know, it's interesting where story ideas can come from. Hence my habit of ADD article subjects. Lately I've been playing alot of Soul Calibur III, which I borrowed from my cousin. A little Chronicles of the Sword mode, and all of a sudden this falls out.

INFO-Taking up the entirety of northern Tiefereich, Nordenrand is known primarily as the main line of defense against the Orc tribes. With nearly half of its small population in the militia, Nordenrand has almost no exported goods, relying mostly on taxes to fund its government, which is paid in return for defending the southern regions of the country.

About one tenth of the population of Nordenrand is Jagaren, whom primarily dwell there simply out of an indifference to political borders. Baron Nordenrand has officially declared that so long as the Jagaren do not harm Ragnan livestock they are welcome to use Nordenrand as hunting ground. Other Jagaren, however, make an effort to join Tiefereich society, and Jagaren members of the militia are welcome with open arms, their superior strength a welcome weapon to use against the Orc tribes.

Though Nordenrand is adamantly hostile towards the Orcish race, their Baron is actually half-Orc, his mother having been raped during an Orc raid. Nonetheless, the previous Baron of Nordenrand accepted the child as his own and Sigiwald was granted the title of Baron at his father's deathbed. His wife, too is half-Orc, their mutual status as social pariahs formed the base of what evolved into a loving relationship. Despite being nobility, the Nordenrand family shares a tradition with many other Ragnan Baronies and allows their children to persue any career they wish. In the case of Theresia Nordenrand, the Baron's daughter, the elected career was in the militia.

Theresia Nordenrand, the daughter of two half-Orcs, is known as "The Scarlet Reaper" or "The Blood Maiden" throughout Nordenrand, a name which stems not only from her blood-red armor, but also the ferocity with which she cuts through invasive Orcs. Her signature weapon is an Orc-style claymore, a massive sword impossible to be weilded by any normal human.

Two other individuals worthy of note are the Baron's personal bodyguards, Captains Chrysander and Melancton. Both former members of the Paladin Order, they were cast out due to their unwillingness to cut down a victim they could not reasonably declare an enemy. While this may make them seem poor bodyguards, the Captains are extremely protective of their Baron and will not allow anyone within striking distance of him unless he personally commands it. Their titles, the Crimson Knight and Azure Knight respectively, come from the color of their armor.
